Taking care of your new ink

Proper aftercare is crucial for ensuring your tattoo heals correctly and maintains its vibrancy. Please read these instructions carefully. If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, don't hesitate to contact Reed Between The Lines Tattoo Studio at Sir: 727-807-0326, Babz: 727-355-4279, or Ryan: 727-355-1642 or message us. Your satisfaction and the quality of your tattoo are our top priorities.

Initial aftercare (days 1-3)

Leave the bandage on: Keep the bandage applied by your artist for the specified time, usually 3-5 days depending on the type of bandage used.

Gently wash: After removing the bandage, gently wash the tattoo with antibacterial, fragrance-free soap and warm water. Use your fingertips to gently clean away any blood, plasma, or excess ink.

Pat dry: Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.

Apply a thin layer of ointment: Apply a very thin layer of a recommended tattoo aftercare ointment, such as Aquaphor or Tattoo Goo. Less is more; you want the tattoo to breathe.

Repeat: Repeat this washing and ointment application process 2-3 times daily.

Ongoing care (days 4-14)

Switch to lotion: After the first few days, switch from ointment to a fragrance-free, dye-free lotion. Examples include Lubriderm or Eucerin.

Moisturize regularly: Apply lotion 2-3 times a day, or whenever the tattoo feels dry or tight. Again, use a thin layer.

Avoid soaking: Avoid prolonged soaking in water, such as baths, swimming pools, or hot tubs. Showers are fine.

No direct sunlight: Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight. Wear loose-fitting clothing or use a high SPF, fragrance-free sunscreen specifically designed for tattoos once it's fully healed.

Don't pick or scratch: Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs that may form. This can cause scarring and damage the tattoo.

Important considerations

Listen to your body: Pay attention to how your skin is reacting and adjust your aftercare routine accordingly. Some people heal faster than others.

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

Avoid tight clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid irritating the tattoo.

Be patient: Tattoo healing takes time, usually 2-4 weeks. Be patient and consistent with your aftercare routine.

When to seek medical advice: If you experience signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or fever, consult a doctor immediately.
